These changes are suggestions to minimise the risk of personal data, stored on local computer machines, possibly being accessed, whilst using the Internet. 

These are changes made to the default settings of a standard Windows Internet Explorer browser IE6 - 7 & 8 installation. The procedure is the same with slight variances for each browser version and has 2 parts. 

The first part is to change / configure the settings prior to all use.

Part One

Open the Microsoft Internet Browser utility program  (usually = Blue E on your desktop) used to find and locate web addresses on the Internet. 

Section A – General TAB

1. With the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser open.
   
   
   
2. Press Stop on the Tool Bar buttons to stop all traffic
3. Select Tools on the Menu Bar above
4. Under Tools select Internet Options
5. The options window opens with Tab Keys along the top – opening on the General Tab
   
   
   
6. Change the Home Page by selecting Use Blank as your default page
7. Press Apply and OK.

1. With the browser now open
2. Press STOP on the Tool Bar
3. Press Home on the Tool Bar
4. Select Tools on the Menu Bar
5. Select Internet Options
   
    
   
6. Select Delete Cookies and press OK – you may have to wait
7. Select Delete Files – another screen will also appear
8. Tick - Delete Offline Content and select OK – you may have to wait
   
9. Select Settings Button and change the default setting from automatic to
   Every Visit to the Page
10. Select OK
11. Change the History Days from 20 to 1 day
12. Select Clear History and say YES to clear history

Section B – Content TAB

1. Select Content on the top Tab 
   
   
   
2. Towards the bottom right select Automatic Complete button
   
3. A new window will open where you will see 3 fields with another sub field which may be ticked. 
   All should be blank or un-ticked
   
   
   
4. When all field are un-ticked press Clear Forms and say OK
   
5. DO NOT PRESS CLEAR PASSWORDS

Section C – Advanced TAB       

1. Change the TAB key at the top of the page to select the Advanced TAB
   
   
   
2. About ten lines down from the top un-tick - Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
   
3. Un-tick “Enable Install On Demand (other)”
   
   
   
4. A few Lines down un-tick the Go button
   
5. Using the scroll slide scroll down to the very bottom
   
    
   
6. 2 lines from the bottom TICK = “Warn if changing from secure to not secure mode”
   
7. About 9 lines up from the bottom - TICK = “Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed”
   
8. Select OK to exit ALL and close the browser completely

             Settings now complete
